Digital Fluency

What is digital fluency?

Digital fluency means having an evolving aptitude that empowers the individual to effectively and ethically interpret information, discover meaning, design content, construct knowledge, and being able to communicate ideas in a digitally connected world whether it be as a teacher teaching teachers and or students, students teaching other students or students showing teachers what they have learned through technology and how they have constructed their work through their own knowledge and ideas.

What skills are necessary for learning in the digital age?

Communication is one of the biggest skills necessary for learning in the digital age because we need to be able to communicate with others not just through face to face communication but being able to communicate with people over a distance whether they are a business being run in another state or overseas we need to be able to use technology to be able to communicate with them so we need to be able to use technology that can help us succeed with that whether it be using a land line phone, a mobile phone or smart phone or using Skype we need to know how to use these digital technologies to communicate with others.

Curriculum is another important skill necessary for learning in the digital age because employers of companies want students in schools to learn how to use programs such as Word to write letters, Excel to make spreadsheets and charts and Power Point to make Power Point presentations amongst other programs and operating systems.

While it is important to know how to use all of these computer programs and operating systems we need to remember to teach children how to keep their identities and privacy safe,  teaching them acceptable behavior whilst on the internet and above all how to stay safe while using the internet and being online.
